Petticoat Parlour is a beautiful 50s retro salon in Green Point, Cape Town where every corner evokes the best of that era. The owner, Wendy Chiat (read our Q&A with her here), is a South African model who spotted a gap in the market for mixing beauty therapy with an element of entertainment. The 50s retro decor is unique and fun.
I had the pleasure of experiencing the Dermalogica Age Smart facial (R520, 75min) at the salon. This facial targets ageing and sun damage. The somatologist who performed this facial, Natalie Volmink, comes highly recommended in the industry and is known for her excellent skills.
She started with cleansing my skin thoroughly and then applied a multivitamin power exfoliant, which contains 15% salicylic acid. This provides a more intense exfoliation, removing dead skin cells and improving the penetration of active ingredients. After extractions, she used a soothing additive, which is a blend of aromatherapy oils that relieves skin sensitivity. Next she used an ultra-calming serum concentrate and oil-free massage medium. The plankton masque base absorbs excess oil and purifies while stimulating the skins natural toxin elimination process. Finally she used a toner, eye cream and tinted moisturiser with SPF15.
The results: My skin looked and felt amazing! After a few days, my skin still looked radiant and the texture looks finer and smoother.
Final verdict: I was very impressed by the results of this facial and Volmink was excellent. I would highly recommend this facial to others.
