Following wins at the Berlin Film Festival and Jozi Film Festival, Man on Ground has scooped another award, this time for Best Ensemble Cast at the Monaco Charity Film Festival in Monte Carlo, Monaco. The movie is set around the xenophobic attacks in SA and features a stellar cast, including Hakeem Kae-Kazim and Fabian Adeoye Lojede as the lead characters Ade and Femi.
Directed by acclaimed director Akin Omotoso, Man on Ground is set during the 2008 xenophobic attacks which took place in SA. It tells the story of a young Nigerian man (Ade) who goes looking for his brother (Femi) after he disappears during the attacks.
The grueling 2008 news photo of Mozambican immigrant Ernesto Nhamuave, who was burnt alive while bystanders watched, inspired the film by Johannesburg-based Omotoso.
The Monaco Charity Film Festival is a yearly charity event held in Monte Carlo, Monaco, which benefits poor children around the world. All proceeds from this year's event went to the Virlanie Foundation in the Philippines. During the eight days of the festival, films from all over the globe are screened and then awarded prizes by an international jury.
