Dineo’s Diary: A Media Mogul in the Making will soon become a reality.
TV presenter Dineo Ranaka has caught on to the reality show craze, with Vuzu TV having commissioned 13 episodes on a drama of her life. The petitie fashion designer and upcoming entrepreneur dished on her new show and the controversy behind the scenes at a press conference held at the Pyramid Day Spa in downtown Johannesburg.
Clad in her fashion label Love DR, Ranaka explained she had always wanted to diversify more extensively into television. The one-time radio presenter said her mind was filled with ideas that she was looking forward to implementing. Ranaka added she was glad to have Vuzu share her vision of producing her own show.
“I have this deep-rooted passion for TV and I’m using myself as a guinea pig by launching a reality show. In future I’d love to work on reality- based formats and I am grateful that the family of Vuzu believed in me and took this idea and made it their baby.
"I’m happy with this new vision and as an entrepreneur I have many ideas I need to be sold, and TV is a better platform compared to radio to do that. I also feel that I’ve been misunderstood in the media and certain perceptions of me have been planted about who Dineo is. I am a complex individual and I hope my fans enjoy watching as I progress into a young entrepreneur,” said Ranaka.
Currently, Ranaka juggles being a single mother to a toddler, sister, daughter, girlfriend and owner of a media company. How she manages to pull it all off is the main theme of her show.
During a 10-minute montage of Ranaka’s show, footage of her bonding with her son, hanging out with her beau and engaging in a family argument were seen. On how her family felt about their lives being invaded by cameras, Ranaka said they were not keen at first but later warmed to the idea.
“I’ve been talking about the idea of having a show for years now. I’d tell my family, imagine us on television, dancing and doing all the crazy things we do,” laughed Ranaka. She added that protecting her family’s integrity took priority in her life and she would not jeopardise family relationships for the sake of fame.
On whether the show was scripted, Ranaka said: “The way things happened was amazing because the moment we started shooting the show, things just fell into place, so not much of the show is scripted.”
So what sets Dineo's Diary apart from its predecessors and counterparts? According to Ranaka, her determination, business sense and passion for life will endear viewers to her.
