The Black Entertainment Awards saw some of America's top African-American entertainers and sports stars strut their fashionable tail-feathers on the red carpet at the Shrine Auditorium on 1 July 2012 in Los Angeles.
Actress Meagan Good looked angelic dressed in a virginal white cut-out frock while actress Eva Pigford, who opted for the same colour, showed a lot of skin in a super-short low-back number. She accessoriesed it with orange neon heels – a big colour trend for summer 2012.
A rather plastic-looking Nicki Minaj toned down her usual over-the-top get-up but still turned heads in a lumo-yellow crop top and snake-print leggings that accentuated her buxom figure.
South Africa's very own singer and songwriter Lira flew the South Africa flag proud in a red one-shoulder floor-length Falata creation.
Model Selita Ebanks made a beautiful appearance dressed in a Falgini & Shane Peacock spring 2012 dress. The Gatsbyesque beaded top and hot pants with sheer skirt was definitely one of the best looks of the evening.
And of course Beyoncé didn't disappoint as she went up on stage to receive her her two trophies for Best Female R&B Artist and Video Director of the Year dressed in a citrine silk-satin one-shoulder gown.

Other winners on the night included Kanye West, who walked away with the award for Video Director of the Year. Of course girlfriend Kim Kardashian was there to cheer from the front row alongside her new best friend, Beyoncé. West and Jay-Z won Best Group with their smash hit album Watch the Throne, while bad boy Chris Brown won Best Male Artist.
Unfortunately the award for Best International Act (Africa) didn't go to Lira and instead was awarded to Ghana's rap king, Sarkodie, together with the Nigerian artist Wizkid.
Dressed in a glittering floor-length gown, singer Mariah Carey shared her fond memories of the iconic Whitney Houston as the awards paid tribute to the late star, who was found dead in a bathtub at a Beverly Hills hotel in February 2012.
