Hennes & Mauritz, or H&M as it’s more popularly known, has confirmed that it will be opening its first store in South Africa in about six weeks.

The store will be opening at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, SA’s undisputed fashion capital. It was initially believed that the store would open at the Mall of Africa, which is still being built in Midrand, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

The store will officially open to the public on 17 October and will have a full variety of fashion and accessories for women, men, teenagers and kids. It will also have H&M’s Home concept for chic home and decor items.

“Opening in time for the festive season, we couldn’t be more excited to debut the first H&M South African store in the iconic V&A Waterfront,”  said Pär Darj, Country Manager: H&M SA, in a press statement. “The store is a highlight of global retail and interior standards and customers can look forward to a wide variety of spring and summer collection offerings.”

The new H&M will take up about 4 700 square meters in the V&A Waterfront centre court, occupying two floors. To celebrate its opening day with its customers, it will be open for a full 14 hours, from 10am-12am with exclusive opening specials happening throughout the day.

“We see great potential for further expansion in this region. We look forward to bringing fashion and quality at the best price to the customers in SA,” said H&M’s Chief Executive, Karl-Johan Persson, said in a previous statement.
