[WATCH] Police open fire on protesting Rhodes University students

Video footage has emerged of police officers roughing up protesting students at Rhodes University on Wednesday, after firing rubber bullets at them

In the video, one male student can be seen being dragged on his back to a police van for questioning over the shootout.

Around 11 students were arrested, including a student heard telling police that students were merely trying to cross the road, while several others were injured.

“There is a big different between the two – cipher that out first and then start arresting. Do your job according to the laws of SA. There is a difference between crossing and blocking the road,” he is heard shouting.

In another scene, police officers are seen forcefully pulling a woman over a wall before escorting her to a van.
