2017 SAFTAs nominees announced

The National Film and Video Foundation announced this years 2017 SAFTAs nominees

The much anticipated South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) 11 nominees were announced today in Bryanston.

CEO of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) Zama Mkosi said: “We are extremely proud and honoured to have reached this stage of the SAFTAs 11, we as the NFVF would like to congratulate all the nominees and hope to encourage the industry to continue striving while setting its own rules around what success looks like for the business of film.

Each year comes with its own challenges and growth opportunities that we highly prioritise. The NFVF will continue to strive for transparency and solutions in order to make sure that the SAFTAs showcase not only the glamorous side of the industry, but the underlying wealth of talent, education, skill and most importably the passion that the South African industry truly has”.

The awards ceremony will have a change of venue and will take place in Sun City, North West. This is a result of the event being more than an awards ceremony, but an attempt to go beyond and make an impact throughout South Africa.

This year, the awards will take place on the 16 March.

These are some of the nominees for this years SAFTAs: 

Best Actress in a TV drama 

  • Tiffany Barbuzano in Sober Companion
  • Brenda Ngxoli in Hustle
  • Linda Sokhulu in Sokulu and Partners Season 2

Best TV soap/Telenova

  • High Rollers

Best Achievement in Scriptwriting in a TV soap/Telenova 

  • Isibaya
  • Uzalo season 2
  • High Rollers
