[WATCH] SA woman assaulted by Airbnb host in Amsterdam speaks out

In an apparent act of racism, an Amsterdam man was caught on camera throwing SA filmmaker Sibahle Nkumbi down a flight of stairs for allegedly checking out late

Nkumbi sustained a concussion and several bumps and bruises after being flung down a steep staircase in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on Saturday.

According to the filmmaker, she and her friends, including photographer Zanele Muholi, were preparing to leave the accommodation they had booked through Airbnb when the 47-year-old owner confronted the South Africans, allegedly in an aggressive manner.

Following a heated exchange, the man proceeded to throw Nkumbi down the flight of stairs as Muholi captured the incident on her phone.

Her crime? The group of women were checking out more than an hour later than they were supposed to.

The man has since been arrested and is facing charges of attempted murder.

In a statement, Airbnb Director of Diversity and Belonging David King said the firm was appalled by the incident.

“Appalling and unconscionable behavior against members of our community runs counter to everything Airbnb stands for. Our CEO, Brian Chesky, and I are reaching out to the affected guests. We will take the strongest actions we can against such abhorrent conduct, including banning people for life from our platform and assisting law enforcement with their investigation and potential prosecution. Nobody should ever be treated like this and it will not be tolerated.”
