Former NFL player and actor Terry Crews took to social media to open up about a recent sexual assault he suffered at the hands of an unnamed Hollywood executive.

He explains that he opened up about his experience because of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Weinstein is a Hollywood executive who has had a mountain of sexual assault allegations and charges laid against him.

Crews relates his story, saying that he was with his wife when the assault took place.

“This whole thing with Harvey Weinstein is giving me PTSD. Why? Because this kind of thing happened to me,” Crews shared on Twitter.

“My wife and I were at a Hollywood function last year when a high-level Hollywood executive came over to me and groped my privates. Jumping back, I said: ‘What are you doing?’. My wife saw everything and we were looking at him like he was crazy. He just grinned like a jerk.”

He went on to say that he was about to “kick his ass”, but decided against it after reflecting on what “a 240-pound black man ‘attacking’ a powerful white man” would look like to the media.

“That night and the next day, I talked to everyone I knew who worked with him about what happened. He called me the next day with an apology, but never really explained why he did what he did,” Crews wrote.

“I decided not to take it further, because I didn’t want to be ostracised. I let it go, and I understand why many women who this happens to let it go. Who’s going to believe you? What are the repercussions? Do you want to work again? Are you prepared to be ostracised?”

He went on to say that Weinstein is not the only perpetrator and that Hollywood is not the only business where this happens.
