Blending art and whisky

[FEATURED] Finding a unique gift for the special men in your life – father, husband, brother, or boyfriend – doesn’t have to be hard this year. Johnnie Walker has released limited-edition designs in collaboration with artist Tristan Eaton

“There are a lot of similarities between what I do as an artist and what the Johnnie Walker blenders do,” says American street artist Tristan Eaton.

The Scotch whisky-maker has collaborated with Eaton to create a unique design for each of its trademark whiskies: Johnnie Walker Red, Black, and Blue Labels.

“We’re on a search for quality,” Eaton says. “We’re trying to find a way to master raw materials to create a final product that people will enjoy and connect with.”

The designs are limited-edition, the company says, and are being released for people who are looking for those one-of-a-kind gifts to give loved ones who appreciate both great whisky and wonderful design.

Transformation

The logo becomes vibrant with Eaton’s redesign – if you look closely, depending on the Label you buy, you can see bits of a human face, a black horse, or a galaxy.

Intricate designs give away the colour, distinguished by the red, black, and blue, of the Label.

Eaton took inspiration for his designs from Johnnie Walker’s heritage and the wide range of flavours and aromas found in the blends, such as the crisp cut grass and fresh fruit found or the smooth, creamy and honeyed notes.

All-encompassing

Eaton says whisky should be an experience for all the senses, and the gift pack is perfect for those who have a keen interest in art and whisky. Both the palate and the eye would be satisfied.

“They are celebratory and fun, but I hope there’s something there visually for hard-core whisky connoisseurs about how we took this flavour and represented it visually so they can discover how it looks the way it tastes.”

About Eaton

As a teenager, Eaton started doing street art and painted everything from billboards to dumpsters. By 2004, he formed a creative agency and studio in New York and has since become a leader in the commercial art sphere. His work can be seen at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

His large-scale murals feature a meticulous visual collage of pop imagery mixed with his unique personal style, all done freehand using spray paint. It is this style that makes the Johnnie Walker limited-edition artist series packs striking and alluring.
