For years, the Sun Met in collaboration with GH Mumm, has been a highly sought after celebrity attraction on the continent and this year was no different.
The SunMet took place on 27 January at the Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town. This year’s theme was “Style Ahead of the Field and the dress code was “Afro chic” which gave celebs the opportunity to play with some traditionally glam attire.
The Paddock Club tent was the place to be as all our local personalities, from Minnie Dlamini-Jones who stunned in a Gert-Johan Coetzee gown (and was host for the festivities) to Ayanda Thabethe, celebrities came out to interpret the theme in their own way.
“I really wanted to push the envelope this year, by celebrating the African theme through my makeup,” said Dlamini-Jones and she really did.
Sport star and philanthropist Usain Bolt had everyone start struck with his huge stature and infections personality. Attendees to their turns to take photos with the Olympic record breaker and by the looks of it, Dlamini-Jones’ picture was the most iconic.
As guest of honour, Bolt definitely stole the show and it was not difficult to see why GH Mumm proudly named the fastest man in the world its CEO in 2016. As we mingled with the likes of Somizi, Luthando “LootLove” Shosha and Nomuzi Mabena, with a glass of GH Mumm in hand, MiCasa serenaded the crowd of avid dancefloor kings and queens preceded by some of the best local deejay acts, like PH.
While Bolt took up the limelight, Oh Susanna, ridden by jockey Gareth van Niekerk, took home the cup as winner of the main race.
What a way to welcome another fabulous new year! We look forward to the next event.
