[WATCH] Winnie Madikizela-Mandela reflects on the realest movie about her life

The late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela once described Anant Singh's acclaimed film, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and British actress Naomie Harris's portrayal of her as the "most real". Check out more from her behind the scenes of her 2014 DESTINY cover shoot

There have been multiple movie remakes portraying the life of apartheid struggle veteran Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and sometimes moviemakers don’t always get all the facts and nuances correct.

But, in a cover story interview conducted with DESTINY in 2013, Madikizela-Mandela said she was blown away by the accuracy and the manner in which the film was treated.

“This is the first time it is told correctly in its brutality, exposed as it was. It is not very easy to look at yourself and be able to interpret what you went through yourself unless you’re asked, because you tend to bury such experiences in the subconscious mind and this is what I have done throughout the years,” she said.
