Ending a relationship is never easy, but how do you adjust to the single life? We provide some tips.

You've been part of a couple for ages and now you're suddenly single. It's important to mourn your relationship properly, but shutting yourself off from life is no way to move on. While you may not be ready to re-enter the dating game, there are ways to embrace the single life.

Ways to adjust
Consciousness and relationship coach Savannah Steinberg suggests ways to adjust to the single life after ending a long-term relationship

1. Have a support structure
What support structure do you have to help you get through this? There is nothing wrong with seeing a therapist – if you find the right one, they can help you heal much faster than doing it alone. If you have just ended a long-term relationship, there will be a time of mourning, loss, grief and adjustment and a support structure is very important to help you through.

2. Establish what you need
Each one of us is different and will have different ways of adjusting. Get clear on what your way is. Do you need close contact or do you need space? Inform those close to you so they know how to best help and empower you.

3. Create the right environment
Find or create an environment that is nurturing and supportive of the shift you are making. Your environment can have a huge effect on the healing process.

4. Find a new hobby
In a long-term relationship often times your friends and community becomes one and with a separation this gets affected. So seek out a new hobby or course that can give you fresh energy and new connections to help you start your new life.
