I was invited to this Eastern Cape spa for some much-needed relaxation
Prana Lodge Spa & Wellness Centre is situated on the Wild Coast in Chintsa East, the Eastern Cape. This exclusive full-day spa offers two private treatment pavilions with outside showers, a couples traditional Thai massage room, herbal steam room and sauna, Pilates and yoga meditation room, and an outside Jacuzzi.
My body has been under a lot of stress lately and, on top of this, I had an injured shoulder. After chatting with owner Gail Davidson, she recommended I have a customised treatment to deeply relax me and offer some relief for my shoulder. The treatment includes an aromatherapy massage and reflexology foot massage.
The first thing that impressed me was that they only use natural ingredients and grow most them in their own herb garden. I could smell the fresh lemongrass and peppermint – heaven for the senses! They also used coconut oil and tigerbalm, which they import from Thailand. They used the tigerbalm on my injured shoulder to offer some much-needed relief.
Two therapists worked together during my treatment. The one deeply massaged every part of my body, while the other one worked on my feet and legs. The result: total relaxation physically and mentally.
I also like that the changing rooms are very spacious and that the spa is situated in natural surroundings and indigenous gardens. You can arrange to have your treatments on the outside deck, overlooking the magnificent Chintsa Bay, or selected treatments may be booked in the privacy of your suite.
* The Anti-Stress package, which includes an aromatherapy and reflexology foot massage, costs R550 for 1½ hours. Other treatments and packages are also available. Tel: 043 704 5100, email: info@pranalodge.co.za, visit: www.pranalodge.co.za.
