We pick our favourite make-up looks from New York Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2013.

From purple eyeshadow to bold lips, it is no wonder we get so excited when it is time for New York Fashion Week! Not only do we get to see the latests beauty trends, but it gives us time to prepare for the upcoming season. Here are some of the make-up looks that stood out for us (view all the looks on our slideshow).

Purple smoky eyes
At the Jason Wu autumn/winter 2013 show, models looked stunning with bright purple eyeshadow, paired with nude cheeks and lips. Make-up artist Diane Kendal created this beautiful look using make-up from Jason Wu's first collection for Lancôme (to launch internationally in September).

Tip: Bright purple eyeshadow looks great if it is well-blended and paired with a few coats of black mascara. Read more tips here for wearing purple eyeshadow.

Vibrant lips
We love bright lips and the look at the Costello Tagliapietra autumn/winter 2013 show was awe-inspiring. This look works well since the rest of the make-up was left nude.

Tip: Bright lipstick tones draws attention to the lips, so make sure that your lips are in good condition. Exfoliate your lips by gently rubbing them with a wet face cloth or baby wipes. Read more tips here for wearing bright lipstick.

Stained lips
Models looked strong and elegant with dark stained lips at the Derek Lam autumn/winter 2013 show. Estée Lauder Creative Make-up Director Tom Pecheux created the lips by mixing brown, maroon and burgundy lipsticks. We also love the minimal eyes for this look.

Tip: To create this look, use your finger to dab dark burgundy lipstick onto the lips. Start by applying it to the inside of the lips and blend the colour outwards.

Bold lips
Models walked the runway at the Zac Posen autumn/winter 2013 fashion show with deep red lips. This is one of those classic looks for winter that will never disappoint. Keeping the rest of the make-up bare is essential to create this look.

Tip: Choose a lip pencil colour that is similar to your natural skin tone, instead of using a colour that matches your lipstick shade. This will prevent your lips from looking uneven and patchy once the lipstick starts fading. Instead, you are left with natural, fresh-looking lips. Read more tips here for wearing deep berry lipstick.
