Studying for an MBA could be bad for your health, marriage and sex life, according to a survey by Finweek.

Thinking of doing an MBA to advance your career? Well, you might want to think again, since according to a new Lifestyle Impact Study by Finweek, Feedbackrocket.com and MBAConnect.net, it could have a negative effect on your marriage, sex life and general health and wellness.

Finweek editor Marc Ashton told www.iafrica.com that the comprehensive study was conducted due to the lack of research into what the "financial, professional, health and social impacts" of studying the degree were. The study addressed questions such as: do people who went into an MBA qualification looking for a job actually succeed in their goal? Did the MBA qualification really improve their salary? Is there a relationship between committing to an MBA and the divorce rate among market participants?

Some of the findings include:

  • A previously reported salary jump of 30% and upwards that has been reported in other surveys is overly optimistic, according to graduates.
  • Black and female MBA graduates do not benefit as much as white males, according to the sample pool.
  • Electing to do an MBA has a very negative short-term financial impact on individuals.
  • The "soft" skills are often underestimated when picking a business school at which to complete your degree.

The overall conclusion of the study is that though an MBA is a valuable "professional development qualification", it shouldn't be undertaken lightly.
