Easy tricks for fabulous hair

The truth about any truly great hairstyle is that you have to let your hair lead the way.

Even if you think you have dreadful hair, there are a few simple tricks that will help you achieve a salon finish at home.

The first step is to have a really good look at your hair. After washing and conditioning your hair, allow it to air dry naturally. Don't fight any crazy curls or cowlicks; let your hair fall where it will. Your hair will fall into its natural path. If your hair parts in the middle or on the "wrong side", don't fight it, but try styling it using your natural path. Your hair will look much better and hold its style for much longer if you don't try to beat it into submission. Understanding your hair allows you to work your style around its quirks. So, no more bad hair days.

Now that you have established how your hair falls and parts, let's move on to styling. One of the easiest tricks is using an old-school curling iron. A one-inch barrel is the most versatile size. To get the most out of your curl, apply a small amount of gel to wet hair and then gently blow dry till it's barely damp. Now curl individual strands of hair in the direction your hair falls. Finish with a few drops of silicone serum for added shine.

Another easy trick is the old Hollywood wave. Start with wet hair, apply some gel or a good mousse and comb your hair into an S-curve. Pin the curves and allow to air dry. Once dry, remove the pins and spritz hair with a setting spray.

For bouncier curls and volume, nothing beats old-fashioned hot rollers. Once set, your curls will last all day. If you have fine hair, spray a light holding spray on each strand before rolling it. Remember to run your fingers through your curls to soften them.
