Friday night: French twist

This is the perfect elegant hairdo for a night out on the town.

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created this chic French twist for the Prada Spring 2013 show. This hairstyle looks modern, with a wispy fringe created to the front. 

Guido says, "The collection is very sophisticated, yet designed to be wearable for a woman in today's times, and Miuccia [Prada] wanted to 'break the mould' of the hair to match the clothing in this same way. So we incorporated the idea of the woman being a little bit boyish. Designers always like it when a girl's got character, but when you pull an updo like this twist straight back in front, it immediately looks very elegant, so adding the wispy bangs helps to break it up a little bit."

Step 1: Prep hair

Apply Redken Layer Lift 07 (R245) to slightly damp hair and roughly blow-dry the hair.  Smooth hair by brushing it with a boar-bristle brush and spray with Redken Quick Dry 18 Instant Finishing Spray (R285), concentrating on the roots. This will give the hair texture, grip and slight height at the crown when putting hair up. Finally, lightly brush the hair out again.

Step 2: Twist it
Now that the hair is prepared well, gather hair up in the back and form a French twist shape by beginning the twist at the crown of the head and then rolling in. Instead of tucking the ends in at the end of the roll, leave the ends of the hair over the forehead to appear like a fringe and secure twist with pins. 

Step 3: Set it
Arrange the fringe on the forehead until you are happy with how it looks. Next, spray the entire style with Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray (R285) to maintain the shape and set the style.
