We get some expert advice on how to create the perfect hair twist.
At the Tracy Reese Spring 2012 show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, models looked modern and fresh with beautiful hair twists. Jawad Maphoto from Lajawi Beaute Café gives us expert advice on how to create this look.
Step 1: Blow-dry hair smooth and straight
For this particular hairstyle, the hair needs to be smooth and straight. Having said that, one can be creative and try different twists with different hair textures. If you want to try it with straight hair, it is best to blow-dry hair first. Start with applying a thermal protection spray to prevent heat damage. Separate hair into sections and secure with clips. Using a round brush, blow-dry hair directing the flow of air along the hair while pulling.
Step 2: Create texture
Some hair types, for example if you have a weave, will need a bit of texture in order to secure it into a twist. You can either curl the hair using rollers or a flat iron, or you can braid the hair into three sections, as this will make the weave less slippery to secure into a twist.
Step 3: Twist and pin
Begin to twist hair on one side above the ear, twisting horizontally inwards. Do the same on the other side. Once both twists meet in the centre, take the longer back section and twist upwards. Secure with pins and hairspray.
Step 4: Add shine
Finally, finish this look with adding sheen to the hair by applying a shine spray.
