Take a look at three events lined up around the country in honour of Mandela Day on 18 July

Each year the country gears up to commemorate Mandela Day. This year will be no different as organisations and individuals plan various events throughout the country to honour Madiba's legacy. 

Looking for a way to spend your 67 minutes? Look no further as we bring you three events to participate in. 

Boundless Heart Foundation

Where: Symphony Way Relocation area, Delft, Cape Town

Time: 9am 

Take your pick of several exciting activities this Mandela day in aid of the Blikkiesdorp community of Cape Town. A variety of ways to spend your 67 minutes are available including building a library, a mass reading event, gardening, painting and more. Individuals and companies are welcome to participate in uplifting this previously disadvantaged community.

Dermalogica and Fite empower female entrepreneurs

Where: Rivonia Road, Sandton

Time: 7am

Dermalogica SA is joining hands with Fite (Financial Independence for Entrepreneurship) for Mandela Day. Women empowerment will be the order of the day as the two organisations embark on arming aspiring entrepreneurs with financial assistance. This will be done in the form of a meeting at the McDonald's on Rivonia Road on Wednesday morning. Join the Dermalogica and the Fite team in urging locals to send their wish to an SMS line and donate R8 in the process. Sandton’s Rock 'n Roll Mcdonald's will warm each person up who sends in a wish with a cup of frothy coffee.

Imbumba Foundation Challenge 1000

Where: Qunu, Eastern Cape

Time: 2pm

Providing 1 000 young women with sanitary pads is the aim of the Imbumba Foundation’s Challenge 1 000 project. This Mandela day, the foundation will collect and distribute the sanitary towels to Eastern Cape residents, as well as provide personal grooming tips. The initiative is in partnership with Sibusiso Vilane, the first black person to summit the South and North Poles and Mount Everest. Join this initiative to truly make a difference in the life of a young woman.
