Madonna is harnessing the power of social media by joining Twitter for one day to chat to fans and promote the release of her new album.
Not even music legends like Madonna can ignore the marketing power of social media. The Queen of Pop is increasing her social media presence by joining Twitter for a day to kick off the release of her 12th studio album, MDNA. Madonna started answering questions with her Twitter handle @MadonnaMDNAday from 10pm EST last night 26 March.
The news that Madonna was joining Twitter was announced on Madonna.com/AskMadonna, with the following message:
"Madonna joins Twitter for one day only to answer fan questions and celebrate the release of her MDNA album. Got a question? #AskMadonna," the site says.
According to CNN.com, the Twitter handle @MadonnaMDNAday sent out its first tweet on Sunday, 25 March, to get the word out about the Q&A with the star.
Here are some of the tweets:
Rylan Rutnik: What is your favourite place to hide? #AskMadonna
MadonnaMDNADay: In my bathroom.
MCiccone_ : Do you believe in luck/horoscopes and those things? #AskMadonna
MadonnaMDNADay: I believe in luck. But I don't believe in coincidence. And I believe in astrology.
Jimmy Swan: What is it that you can't control? #AskMadonna
MadonnaMDNADay: My attention to detail and my obsessively compulsive need to know everything that is going on around me.
Madonna also cleverly marketed the album and her Facebook page by granting a Facebook live and exclusive interview with late-night show host Jimmy Fallon on Saturday 24 March. Taped in front of an audience and live-streamed through Madonna's Facebook page, fans had to "Like" her page in order to watch the interview. It also incorporated questions from fans sent from all over the world. The interview is the only live press she is doing for her new album, MDNA.
