South African businesses have until 29 June to apply for the Mozambique trade fair.
Businesses in South Africa have until the end of the week to secure their place at the Feira de Internacional de Maputo (Facim), Mozambique’s biggest trade fair.
“This trade fair is a very good platform for South African businesses to enter the Mozambican market,” says the Foreign Trade promotion manager at the Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency, Andrew Bütler.
The objective of the trade fair is to connect producers, sellers, investors, importers, exporters, buyers and other business platforms. It hopes to promote trade, stimulate production and consumption, and economic integration of Mozambique into the global economy.
“The idea is for businesses to find other wholesalers and see what they are doing on the Mozambican business front,” says Bütler. “Business owners can see what international companies are doing in Mozambique and learn from what they are doing.”
Last year Mozambique was South Africa’s largest export market in Africa. South Africa exported R17.18 billion worth of goods to Mozambique in 2011, compared to R13.85 billion in 2010.
In the past only Mpumalanga businesses were promoted at the fair. This year the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has made it a national pavilion allowing businesses across the country the opportunity to apply. Bütler said that DTI will cover most of the costs for businesses exhibiting at the fair. Only businesses registered for tax will be considered.
“So far we have had 20 requests for application in the Mpumalanga province, with 11 completed applications. The applications are from all different kinds of sectors. Some are from the agricultural sector while other companies want to export building materials to Mozambique,” says Bütler.
