Nick Cannon’s career change

Actor and rapper set to make his directorial debut.

Nick Cannon has found himself a comfy spot in the director’s chair as he gets set to release a new film later this year.

Cannon (31) is in the process of shooting his new film titled School Dance, which is a coming of age comedy. He hit Hollywood at the age of 16 and mapped out his career as a comedian, rapper, actor and television executive. Cannon who married Mariah Carey in 2008, has twins with the star, a girl and a boy named Monroe and Morrocan. His marriage to Carey has undoubtedly cemented his star status.

He was the youngest staff writer at Nickelodeon and rose to prominence when he was made the honorary chairman and development consultant for Nickelodeon's TEENick in 2009.

Cannon has been able to reinvent himself within the industry as he shifts from comedy to rap to acting with ease. His latest career move comes as no surprise as Cannon has previously expressed his desire to direct blockbusters. According to reports, Cannon’s film was picked up by Lionsgate Entertainment and is set to feature a variety of hip-hop acts and comedians.

Cannon was also the host of NBC’s America’s Got talent and has his own radio show. Commenting on Cannon’s marriage and career growth, president of Nickelodeon and MTV Networks' Kids and Family Group, Cyma Zarghami said she saw a difference.
"We watched him grow up, and he couldn't have come out any better. Now that he's married and settled down and has his personal life in a fabulous place, he's working harder than I've ever seen him work. "
