An exciting new nail, waxing and beauty salon launches in Sandton City.
I am not usually a fan of beauty salons in shopping malls, as I prefer the quick, discreet, pop in-pop out option, but Soho NYC has made me reconsider my aversion to beauty in the mall.
Firstly, it’s conveniently located at Entrance 6 of Sandton City and parking spots are reserved, so you can literally park on the doorstep and exit the same way. So my first concern was blown out the water. Secondly, if you still prefer to avoid the mall, they offer a fantastic service called Soho Mobile, which brings the service to your door if you are in the Sandton City precinct.
Decor
Then there is the wow-factor of the salon itself. Although this is a truly New York-style salon, it is not a franchise and is a first of its kind in SA. The inspiration came from the typical NYC salon, which focuses on speed, service and convenience. The decor is industrial and modern, with all the amenities – super-comfy pedi chairs (with a dreamy massage functionality), wash basins, drying stations so you never have to walk out blowing on your nails, massage stations and a retail display of super-cool, exclusive NYC specialty products.
Service
At Soho, from the moment you step inside and are whisked to your treatment station, the focus is on you. The funky stations have cool extras like handbag and laptop slots, Wi-Fi and mobile charging facilities and your beverage of choice quickly appears. Another plus is the walk-in service, which operates on a first come, first served basis, or you can book.
Treatments
I had the Signature Manicure (R230) and Signature Pedicure (R275), both of which were sublime and the polish lasted well. Other services include nail art, waxing, massage (including express massage treatments of 10, 15 or 20 minutes), men’s grooming, tinting, Princess services (for the under 10’s) and Mommy and Me (for mom and her princess!).
Verdict: I love the concept, the speed, the service and the vibrant, positive attitude of the place and the staff. Welcome to SA – we have been waiting for a spot like this for a long time!
