A 15-year-old girl accused of fatally stabbing another teen appeared in the Randfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Captain Appel Ernst said the matter was postponed to March 12 for the accused to be consulted by a social worker and for a report to be produced.
"The suspect is still in custody and no bail was granted," said Ernst.
She would remain in a juvenile facility.
The grade nine pupil allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old girl in the lower body last Friday.
"It is alleged that the 15-year-old suspect assaulted the victim while on their way from school. The victim died due to her injuries and the suspect was arrested the same evening," said Ernst.
Circumstances leading to the deadly assault were still unclear.
The Star newspaper reported that both girls were pupils at Lukhanyo Secondary School in Mohlakeng, near Randfontein.
Gauteng education spokesman Charles Phahlane told The Star the girl had been suspended from the school.
