As a developing country South Africa is still filled with opportunity and retail potential. Both local and international brands are setting up shop every day, as they take advantage of the chance to expand their operations and tap into a lucrative market. Yay! More reasons to shop!
Here's a look at the new and exciting retail brands now available:
Superdry is an international brand that was created in 2003 by Julian Dunkerton and James Holder in the UK, following an inspirational trip to Tokyo. They wanted to create a brand that focused purely on high-quality products, fused with vintage Americana/Japanese-inspired graphics. Superdry has grown from its core British market, to now being sold in over 30 countries including France,Germany, Korea and South Africa.
Superdry South Africa recently launched its second concept store situated in Johannesburg’s Nicolway Centre. It showcases menswear and womenswear as well as the brand’s range of footwear, luggage, accessories and fragrances that combine to create the unique and stylish Superdry lifestyle. The interior blends modern interior architecture including wooden panelling, and original 1930s barber chairs, all under warm lighting to create a welcome setting.

Marita Wise and her daughter, Esther Lamprecht, launched Lavish Clothing boutique in 2000 with the aim of providing unique garments in a relaxed and non-intimidating personal setting. Situated in a home, the beautifully decorated space offers both imported and locally sourced smart casual wear ranging from R300 to R1 500. However, although extremely inexpensive, Wise says they have not forgone on quality. Along with allowing women to dress well at an affordable price, Wise wants to help body-conscious customers build their self-esteem. “Our passion is to style real people, real bodies, and to see you enjoying a boost in your confidence and self-esteem”.
