SABC1 launched the fifth season of the "Tropika Island of Treasure" this week with an outdoor extravaganza.
Despite the chilly weather, celebs and guests gathered at the Davinci Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg on Wednesday, where SABC1 was launching the fifth season of the Tropika Island of Treasure. The venue, which was transformed into a little Tropika island, was packed to capacity.
With the challenge moving from etv to South Africa’s number one channel, SABC1, the public broadcaster pulled out all the stops, treating guests to a morning lunch accompanied by Tropika cocktails.
One by one the contestants walked in, mingled and took pictures with the guests. There were also a competition for whoever took pictures with all the celebs first and tweeted them under the hashtag TIOT5. Celebrity blogger Mika Stefano was among the winners of the competition, winning himself an undisclosed sum of money.
For the fifth season the celebrity contestants will be jetting off with seven public contestants to Jamaica. The contestants will be presented with a couple of daily challenges in Jamaica where they will be competing for the R1 million cash prize. The celebrity contestant line-up includes model-turned-actress Pearl Thusi, Sama award-winning rapper AKA, Jozi member Da-Les, FHM model Reeva Steenkamp, singer Mario Ogle, former Miss Teen Phuti Khomo and Isidingo star Jay Anstey.
The constants have already been to Jamaica to shoot the promo and could not contain their excitement as the trailer was played for the first time at the launch. Tropika Island of Treasure will air on SABC1 at 6.30pm in February 2013 on Saturdays. Public entries will close on 30 September 2012.
