Sometimes we hold ourselves back from doing the things that we are ‘called’ to do because we think too little of ourselves. As entrepreneurs; our calling is to serve and service the economy. We are often driven by the commercial need to better our lives, through delivering a civil service to our country.
When this is the case, we invariably suffer from the same thing the Israelites suffered from when it was time to go into the land of Canaan to possess it; that is, paralysis due to fear. When time came to go into their land of promise, their messed up mindset shut them out from receiving God's abundance. You see, even though God had assured the Israelites that the land was theirs for the taking, when they saw menacing giants, they let their own fear and warped perception of themselves keep them from entering in.
The Bible tells us that ten of the twelve Israelite spies that were sent to scope out the land came back with a negative, horrifying story of war-like giants that would consume them! They scared the people half to death. The spies made a very revealing statement though, and I want to share it with you here: They said, "And there we saw the giants, and sons of Anak, who come of the giants; and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight" (Numbers 13:33).
Hmmm...
Notice that the giants saw them as they saw themselves—as grasshoppers.
Just as we are guilty of doing from time to time, many people also overlook the networks and support, available on their side. Don't you realize that a small mentality holds you hostage and locks you out of your place of purpose, promise, and provision?
Here's something else to think about.
It's not that the Israelite spies couldn't clearly see that the land was prosperous and plenteous, but they couldn't get over their own mental hang-ups. The Bible said that the clusters of grapes they brought back from Canaan were so big that, they had to be carried between two men on a pole! (See Numbers 13:24, 25)
Can you imagine that?
Notwithstanding, I guess in their minds, the obstacles were bigger than the blessings. As a result, the Israelites' grasshopper mentality kept them from laying hold of everything God wanted to give them. Listen, when we are called to serve, as entrepreneurs the economy never promises that success will come without adversity, but we can count on one thing. Power and wherewithal to accomplish every goal, dream, and visions in our hearts.
The question is, can we elevate our mentality? Because if you believe it, you can do it, be it, and possess it!
