SA designers excel at New York Fashion Week

Designers David Tlale and Gavin Rajah proved that African fashion can sit comfortably amongst its international counterparts when they presented world-class garments at New York Fashion Week.

Gavin Rajah showcased his spring/summer 2013 collection as part of the Arise African Icons Collective on 6 September. The range featured metallics, intricate brocade lace and detailed embellishments in feminine vintage 50s silhouettes.

David Tlale, who showed on 9 September, opted for chiffons in burnt orange and black in his women's collection, which included floor-length kaftans and dresses.
