I need basic tips on how to apply make-up, especially around the eyes areas
MICHEL SAYS: Your eye shape will always determine how you apply eye make-up, but there are some basic rules to help guide you. Always start by applying a dab of foundation on your lids, followed by a light dusting of powder. This helps to fix your shadow and allows a smooth application. Now choose a light, medium and dark eyeshadow, preferably in the same colour family. The lightest colour should be your highlighter colour, which you will use on your brow bone and inner corner of the eye, blended over the eyelid. Now you are ready for colour. The easiest of all the eyeshadow techniques is a wash of colour over the entire eye. Use a large eyeshadow brush and, starting at your lash line, press the colour onto the lid. Blend the colour up and outwards, to just over the crease. Make sure there are no edges. A second option is wearing a medium colour in the crease. Start as before. Now, using a medium sized brush or, if you have one, a bevelled eyeshadow brush, apply the colour to your crease following the natural contour of your lid. Don’t take the colour beyond the outer corners of the eye. My favourite option is both fast and effective. This is to apply a dark colour worn next to the lash line. Prime your eyes as before. Using a pencil or a fine eyeshadow brush, line the top, bottom or both lids. The line should be thicker on the outer edges, tapering towards the inner corners of your lid. Smudge the line using an earbud or the tip of your finger. This defines the eyes and emphasises the lashes, making them appear full. Finish your eyes with a coat of mascara. If you want to apply mascara to both your top and bottom lashes, start with the bottom lashes first. This prevents mascara smudging onto your lid when you look up. A good idea for learning how to apply make-up is to try one of the cosmetics counters. Most of the beauty houses offer a service to take you through a step-by-step make-up application.
How can I wear summer brights without looking OTT?

CANDICE-LEE SAYS: Bold, bright clothing can be a real challenge to incorporate into your wardrobe.

Here are my tips for wearing brights:
1) Initially, try injecting small doses of colour into your wardrobe with accessories and shoes. A white shirt and black pencil skirt will come to life when a skinny bold red belt is worn around the waist.
2) A pair of red heels will give a severe all black look a playful edge.
3) A bold, brightly patterned scarf wrapped around the neck will add a bit of fun to a neutral ensemble.
4) A red dress, worn out in the evening is so much more eye catching than a black one.
5) Ground bold, bright colours with neutral ones. For example, if you’re wearing an emerald green satin shirt, pair it with a taupe or navy skirt or trousers. The colourful effect will be less severe.

Where can I find the perfect work suit?

CANDICE-LEE SAYS: Depending on your budget, there are a host of stores that do amazing suits. Woolworths has some very well-priced options in their W section, W Basics, as well as Country Road.

Carducci offers sophisticated suits with a fashionable edge. Habits are known for their great tailoring and have a selection of wonderful skirt and trouser suits. Jenni Button is my favourite boutique for suits, and has contemporary styles in really good quality fabric.

It’s also worth popping into Pringle, as they often have some classic styles with interesting fashionable details. If your budget allows, a suit from a designer store like Marion & Lindie or Hugo Boss will last a lifetime if cared for correctly and will always look fashionable and stylish.

I love wearing jeans – how can I dress them up to look smart enough for work?

CANDICE-LEE SAYS: Jeans are a staple in any wardrobe but there are a few tricks to making them work appropriate:

1) Look for jeans in a dark blue or black wash. The darker the tone, the more sophisticated they will look.
2) Pair your jeans with a white shirt and an elegant suit jacket. The effect will be corporate chic.
3) Be wary of the style. Bootleg and straight-leg cuts are the most sophisticated and work best for the office. Stay away from flared and very wide-leg styles – they are just too casual. Skinny styles are also not appropriate for work and are best reserved for weekends and evenings.

Which is the best hair salon in Jo'burg where I can maintain my Afro?
SHELENE ANSWERS: It is not so much about the best salon, as it is about the best advice and the home care you practice. I suggest you visit one or two salons and have full consultations and find someone you can communicate with, to give you the best result for your hair. Then you will have found your best salon.
I need advice on the jeans I should wear – I used to weigh 94.4kg and now I have just lost 5kg and still need to lose another 13kg. I feel good about it and I need to show off a little – how can I wear my jeans and what type of jeans will suit me?
KHENSANI SAYS: You cannot go wrong with dark blue jeans, as the darker colour will make everything look slim and trimmed. The shape for someone your size would be a bootleg or straight cut, as they are tight around the hips and skim over the rest of your legs. Levi’s recently launched Eva jeans, which I think are the best bootleg denims on the market right now.

I am a big fan of secondhand clothes and people always appreciate my choice of clothes. I would like to open a secondhand clothes boutique. Can you advise on where I can find suppliers?
KHENSANI SAYS: Most secondhand clothing stores rely on good Samaritans to supply them with clothing that they no longer like. I would suggest you target certain individuals whose style you like and offer to buy clothing from them at a minimal price when they do their seasonal wardrobe revamp. You can also trawl other secondhand clothing stores and charity shops and offer to buy from them in bulk, as this will secure you a low price.
How can I protect hair from going bald?
SHELENE SAYS: Baldness is usually hereditary, but today's stressful world and food high in hormones have helped to aggravate the situation. There are some products on the market that I believe can help slow the process, such as Nioxin or Vigro, but they are expensive and need to be maintained for a lifetime.

More importantly, eat well, take a good multi-vitamin and create better blood circulation to the scalp, especially in the balding area. Remember to only do this pre-washing, as rubbing the head will stimulate the oil or sebaceous glands, causing oiliness.

Don't wear cornrows and rather stick to weaves, as cornrows pull the hair too tight and out of their natural direction.
