Umlalazi Nature Reserve, Mtunzini, KwaZulu-Natal

This picturesque coastal reserves protects 1 028 hectares of KwaZulu-Natal’s beautiful North Coast. Between the Indian Ocean and the dune forests of the region, Umlalazi provides the best of both sea life and hiking with windsurfing, angling, skiing, trailing through mangrove swamps and bush walks. Bush pigs and duikers can be spotted in the forests and the lagoon provides excellent fishing – when crocodiles and sharks are absent! The reserve also offers a tranquil barge cruise down the river – the perfect vantage point for the collection of wildflowers and bird life on the banks.

Marakele National Park, Thabazimbi, Limpopo
If your preference is for luxury, then the Tlopi Tented Camp in the Marakele National Park is the compromise between wild outdoors and comfort. Tlopi is situated in a lush location in the heart of the Waterberg Mountains, in the sanctuary where the dry west meets the moist east. Deep valleys and mountain landscape with yellowwood and cedar trees mark the terrain, where large game and big cats can be found. Each ready-prepped tent has beds, a private bathroom and equipped kitchen.
