This Women’s Day, L’Occitane is celebrating the dedicated women of Burkina Faso who've been harvesting the nuts from the African shea tree for the L’Occitance Shea Butter range. When this project was formed to empower the women of Burkina Faso on an economic level, there were a total of 10 women working on this project; now there are over 12 000 women who benefit from L’Occitane's initiative.

In 2006, the L’Occitane Foundation was formed to further aid the women to gain financial independence. The foundation focuses on activities and projects to help these women become financially capable to take care of themselves and their families. One of these projects is the Women’s Day Soap which is manufactured by a local woman of Burkina Faso who has been making soap to help support her family. L’Occitane has stepped in and offered support to this project by supplying equipment and training for the employees.

All the funds that are collected from the L’Occitane initiative are put back into the project to help develop more ways to empower the women of the world.

L’Occitane stores are situated at Hyde Park Shopping Centre, Melrose Arch, Menlyn Mall, Gateway Theatre of Shopping, V&A Waterfront and Cavendish Connect.
