This year, the Hennessy Artistry tour took a slight detour from its usual mix of musicians and added jazz singer Caiphus Semenya. Together with rapper AKA, pop-rock band The Arrows, hip-hop muso Zakwe and house singer Bucie, Semenya composed and featured on a collaboration titled Dancing Forever.
The culmination of months of studio time resulted in a local concert at Johannesburg's trendy Hush club last week. Each artist performed a medley of their own hits. Zakwe impressed with his brand of up-beat freestyling, with the crowd hanging onto his every word.
Bucie had the audience on its feet with her energetic and sensually charged performance. The house music star had her fans begging for more as she showcased her singing skills.
Although they were due to catch a flight to New York the next day, The Arrows still managed to deliver a great performance. AKA closed the show with a performance that had everyone on the dancefloor.
Speaking on what they expected before the tour, The Arrows said they were excited to be involved in the project.
"It’s going to be epic. A good friend of ours, Zakes [Bantwini], told us about the Hennessy Artistry experience and we were, like, so excited. It’s a big privilege to be mentioned in the same breath as Caiphus, he is a living legend. It's been radical for us to meet all these people, form relationships with them and be able to understand and get over any difficulties. We didn’t know Zakwe was from Durban and we are excited about that."
