It’s where glamour meets simplicity and all things opulent are celebrated. From the outrageous outfits to the R3,5 million prize money, there is absolutely nothing less then lavish at the Vodacom Durban July.
With a maximum temperature of 29 degrees, the weather was perfect on Saturday. Unlike last year, when the rains left the grass muddy and guests’ shoes the worse for the wear, this year the greens were a pleasure to tread.
In the Jack Daniels marquee, festivities got off to a start at 11 am. Guests steadily trickled into the Boomtown area, which was situated away from the rest of the Durban July marquees.
Several bright hospitality marquees decorated the Boomtown area. These ranged from Flying Fish whose blue and white decor stood out, giving it a sophisticated feel, the YFM and Gagasi FM marquee was vibrant in red and black, while main event sponsor, Vodacom impressed in pure red. Perfomances from Zakes Bantwini, Uhuru, Mi Casa and KO of Teargas got guests on their feet.
Jeannie D (ABOVE LEFT) kept it simple in a lacy crop top and fishtail polka-dot skirt combo. The Top Billing presenter was the red carpet host for SABC 3 who broadcast the event live. Minnie Dlamini (ABOVE RIGHT) showed off her svelte figure in a green and gold sequined mini dress, accentuated with peacock feather detailing.
Miss SA Rolene Strauss (ABOVE LEFT) was the epitome of old-school elegance in her white dress, channelling retro glamour, reminiscent of old-world Hollywood. Singer Nandi Mngoma (ABOVE RIGHT) went for a similar look, but with a modern twist in her cropped number.
Isibaya actress Jessica Nkosi (ABOVE LEFT) was stunning in a caramel-toned dress. Her full A-line, mid-calf skirt was bang on trend, while Nomzamo Mbatha’s navy and cream dress oozed elegance.
White was a popular colour and RGB presenter Amanda du-Pont (ABOVE LEFT) donned this crisp hue. Johanna Mukoki (ABOVE RIGHT) opted for a nude, figure-hugging dress.
Actress Mbalenhle Maphumulo (ABOVE LEFT) wore a black dress. Mbali looked effortlessly chic in her outfit while Terry Pheto and Mampho Brescia (ABOVE RIGHT) were the epitome of sophistication in their gowns. Terry wore her red ensemble at the 2006 Oscars and this was her bringing back to life that superstar ‘big screen moment’ in line with the Durban July theme.
