As news of the death of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown’s only child, Bobbi Kristina, makes headlines around world, questions abound as to who will inherit her $20-million (R252-million) estate, and what role her husband Nick Gordon played in her death.

The 22-year-old, who died on Sunday, has been in a coma since suffering brain damage after being found unconscious and face down in a bathtub in her home on 31 January this year.

Questions about events leading up to the incident remain unanswered, despite her father’s family alleging that Gordon harmed her.

In June, Bobbi Kristina’s conservator Bedelia Hargrove filed suit against Gordon for assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and transferring money from her account into his own without authorisation, USA Today reported. He was accused of stealing $11 000 (R139 000) while his wife lay in a coma.

According to the report, Bobby Kristina had confided in an unnamed person that Gordon was not the man she had thought he was, and had arranged to meet up with that person on the day she was found unconscious in her Georgia home.

While the investigation into the events that led up to the loss of Bobby Kristina’s life is ongoing, the other big question is: who will inherit her estate?

Bobby Kristina’s maternal uncles Michael and Gary, and her grandmother Cissy Houston are expected to inherit the majority of the estate, according to a recent Hollywood Life report.

According to the terms of Houston’s will, her daughter, to whom she bequeathed her entire $20-million fortune was to receive 10% of her inheritance when she turned 21, 15% when she turned 25 and the rest when she turned 30.

The will also stated that in the event that Bobbi Kristina passed away before getting her full inheritance, it would go to her grandmother and her uncles.

Gordon, who is currently on suicide watch after his wife’s death, can however fight the family for a piece of the pie. He was banned from seeing Bobbi Kristina by both the Houstons and the Browns.
