After resigning from her job as a trade specialist at the Department of Trade and Industry in 2008, Dudu Mofokeng decided to embark on an entrepreneurial journey.
She cashed in her pension fund to start Legacy Superior Dry-Cleaning and Laundry services, which specialises in cleaning and restoring wedding gowns.
The 2014 Sanlam Business Partners Entrepreneur of the Year Award recipient now owns four branches in Gauteng and has an annual turn over of R5 million. She hopes to open a Cape Town branch next year.
Mofokeng says the secret to her success is self belief: “You need to believe in yourself, that’s it. There is nothing that beats someone believing in themselves,” she says, adding that she is also passionate about encouraging more women enter the business sector.
“This is a man’s world, I think we need to acknowledge that, but I think the likes of us who are in the business world are making headways to challenge that,” she says.
