It’s been reported that funny man Mike Epps filed for divorce last week Tuesday after almost 10 years of marriage to Mechelle Epps.
Court papers revealed that the couple had been separated for a few months. Apparently they split after Epps tweeted another woman, telling her to send him a direct message on Twitter.
In the divorce settlement, Epps is reportedly seeking joint custody of their children, Maddie (8) and Mariah (10), both girls. On the day that Epps filed for divorce, his wife took to Twitter to express a sentiment she was clearly feeling at the time.
The tweet read, “Be thankful for closed doors, detours and roadblocks. They protect you from paths and places you are not meant to be.”
Epps is worth an estimated $6m (about R95m), and TMZ reports that there hasn’t been any mention of a prenuptial agreement between the couple.
The pair met on the set of 2003 film The Fighting Temptations, where Mechelle had been cast as the girlfriend of Epps’ character. They got married three years later and have been together since.
Epps has been cast in the forthcoming all-star film about stand-up comedian Richard Pryor, in which Epps plays Pryor.
