If you are one of the many “lucky” ladies in life who have to wear glasses, then you know all too well how real the struggle is when trying to create flawless eye make-up looks that pop beautifully through your specs, so people can see that you are actually wearing make-up and not like a three-year-old has painted your face… poor vision and eyeliner are not friends!
Luckily, there are many tips and techniques out there, my fellow four-eyed friends, that can help us stand out from the crowd.
Van den Berg says lenses and frames play a big role in terms of eye makeup. It is also a challenge for those with poor vision to apply makeup correctly to ensure their eyes make a lasting impression.
- Makeup etiquette 101: Refrain from applying too much eye makeup at first. You can always add more later, which will be quicker than having to remove your makeup and re-apply it.
- Can’t see what you’re doing? Invest in a magnifying mirror. Most women apply makeup without their spectacles, so this is a necessity.
- Definition is key: Define your eyes by using a dark eyeliner on the top and bottom lash lines to accentuate eyes to help them stand out from behind your spectacles. If you’re uncertain as to how “dark” you should go when purchasing an eyeliner, a simple rule to remember is to make sure it is darker than your eye colour.
- Camouflage dark circles: Your spectacle frame can cast shadows under your eyes. Lightly dab concealer in dark areas under the eye, moving towards the nose to instantly refresh and even out your skin tone.
