The concept of unisex fragrances was first introduced by Calvin Klein with the launch of the iconic CK One in 1994, which was for use by men and women. The brand then launched CK Two in 2015, which was marketed as ‘gender-free’ rather than unisex.

While many fragrances might be gender-specific, some have qualities that are appealing to both sexes. With input from a number of discerning ladies, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best men’s fragrances that while being perfectly masculine, could also work well for the woman in your life.

Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Forte

Tom Ford Neroli Portofino

The Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Forte is a bit of a magical scent. It’s reminiscent of nature, and with just a single spritz you could almost picture yourself treading through the Amazon. It doesn’t say man, it doesn’t say woman, it just says nature.

Narciso Rodriguez bleu noir

Narciso Rodriguez bleu noir

Launched in 2015, the Narciso Rodriguez bleu noir is elegant with an unsolvable mysterious nature. While it leans more to the masculine side of the scale because of its distinctive musk core, its mysterious nature makes it suitable for the ladies too. It will take a confident woman who knows what she’s about to pull it off though.

Carolina Herrera Central Park for men

Carolina Herrera

From observation, many of the Carolina Herrera fragrances for men, such as Central Park and 212 Sexy Men, are more unisex-type fragrances than they are masculine. Central Park for men is a woody fragrance that exudes masculine allure and is softened by the fresh ginger accord.

The Avon Black Suede for men was first launched in 1980 and is a classic oriental fragrance. The Black Suede Touch is an updated version, launched in 2006. The top notes of ginger and middle notes of patchouli and pepper give the fragrance a bit of a feminine appeal, and the base notes of cashmere wood, nutmeg, musk and vanilla balance out the scales, making it work for both genders.

Armani Code Profumo

Armani Code

The Armani Code Profumo is an Oriental fragrance for men that was launched earlier this year. It’s a bit of an interesting one because it’s hyper-masculine, but at the same time it’s very soft and sweet, which is why the ladies can love it too. It has top notes of green mandarin, green apple and cardamom followed by middle notes of orange blossom, lavender and nutmeg. It ends off with tonic bean, amber and leather, and we must say, this is one of our favourites for both the gents and ladies.
