Warmer days are around the corner and nothing welcomes summer like tasty, nutrient-rich smoothies that are a winner with the whole family, especially since they can be made in the comfort of your own home.

Apart from being tasty, smoothies have amazing health benefits. Not only are they great for detoxing, but they also keep you hydrated, aids muscle growth and great for weight loss.

Have you seen pictures of Khloe Kardashian lately? The reality star has shed a few kilograms and has her super-smoothie to thank for it. She recently shared her 11-ingredient recipe, which includes bananas, greek yoghurt (vanilla or plain), raspberries, strawberries, milk, peaches, oranges, mangoes,  spinach, pineapple and mixed berries.

We went in search of six easy-to-try smoothies that’ll boost your energy, help you stay healthy and please your palate:

Triple-berry kiwi smoothie
• ½ cup blueberries, frozen
• ¾ cup raspberries, frozen
• 1 cup strawberries, frozen
• 1 cup orange juice
• 2 kiwi fruits, peeled and sliced

Green apple smoothie
• 1 cup kale leaves
• 1 cup spinach leaves
• Juice of ½ lemon
• 1 green apple, cored and diced (approximately 1 and a ¼ cup)
• ½ cucumber
• ½ teaspoon agave nectar (or raw honey)
• ½ cup filtered water
• 3 ice cubes

Ginger mint smoothie
• 1 cucumber, peeled
• 6-8 leaves romaine lettuce
• 1 cup coconut water, chilled
• 1 lime, freshly squeezed
• 1 piece fresh ginger
• 1 bunch fresh mint leaves

Green-on-green-on-green smoothie
• 1 medium-sized cucumber,peeled and cut into large chunks
• 2 large leaves of curly or lacianto kale, stems removed
• 1 pear, cored and cut into large chunks
• 3-4 celery ribs, about two ounces, cut into large chunks
• Juice of 1 lime
• ½ cup pineapple juice
• 3-4 ice cubes

Pineapple cleanser smoothie
• 1 rib of celery
• ½ field cucumber
• 1 cup fresh or frozen pineapple
• ½ lemon, peeled
• ⅓ bunch parsley
• 2,5cm ginger
• 1-2 cups coconut water or water

One of Chef Zola Nene’s favourites is a seasonal naartjie smoothie that you can try out now:

Frozen banana
Dates
Yoghurt
Naartjie juice
Mint

All you need to do is place all your ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. If your smoothie is too thick, add more liquid.
