The holidays are so close you can almost smell them and if visions of evening walks on the beach, poolside parties and family gatherings have you thinking about your make-up style for the season, we’ve got you covered.

Contrary to popular belief, blush isn’t only reserved for the cheeks. I quickly learnt in my former career as a model – working with some of the industry’s top make-up artists – that in an emergency a good blush can be used on the lips, eyes and even nails, should you be feeling extra creative. By investing in one multi-purpose make-up item that can quickly take you from a leisurely lunch with the girls to date night, you’re guaranteed to save time and money.

Mono make-up is the industry’s latest trend. It involves creating a monochromatic look by using the same shade on your lips, eyes and cheeks.

The trick is to choose shades that not only suit your skin tone, but also the occasion and look you wish to achieve. Mono make-up works best with warm, neutral or pink shades (for a fuss-free day look) or warm metallics like copper, gold or bronze for a glam evening statement.

Here’s how to get the most out of these wonderful multi-tasking products in four easy steps.

On the eyes

You’ll need an eyeshadow brush and the colour of your choice. Lightly sweep the blush over your entire lid for a beautiful, illuminating finish. Should you wish to go bolder, simply apply more blush to gradually build up a strong colour.

On the cheeks

Take your daytime neutral flush over the cheeks into an elegant evening look by applying more product to the cheek bones to create a stronger contoured look that will put Kim Kardashian to shame.

On the lips

Take the same shade of blush and give lips a matte finish or a glossy sheen by mixing a little crushed blush into a moisturising lip balm or a clear lipgloss for the finish you desire. If you don’t want to crush your blush, use a wet lip brush to pat the product onto moisturised lips.

On the nails

A great space-saving tip: Instead of hauling every shade of nail polish under the sun with you on holiday, pack just a clear nail polish. Pour some out into a stain-proof bowl, mix in some crushed blush of your choice and apply. Voila – your nails co-ordinate with your mono beauty look!
