Gordhan, who was set to meet with investors during an overseas investment roadshow this week, was on Monday summoned back home by President Jacob Zuma.
There has since been growing speculation that Gordhan may be fired.
On Tuesday, EFF leader Julius Malema tweeted that Gordhan would be replaced by Brian Molefe after Kathrada’s funeral on Wednesday.
“PG (Pravin Gordhan) and MJ (Mcebisi Jonas) are going to be removed from the Executive; the top six respects Zuma’s prerogative to appoint and dismiss Ministers,” Malema tweeted.
Gordhan was honoured by Ahmed Kathrada Foundation CEO Neeshan Balton at the funeral. “Irrespective of whether you are a minister or not in days or weeks to come, you remain true to the values and principles that Kathrada would be proud of,” Balton said.
