Metro FM host and Idols SA judge Somizi Mhlongo and comedian Tumi Morake will be hosting this year’s Samas.
Somizi took to Instagram to express his gratitude for another opportunity to host the prestigious awards, after fronting the event last year alongside Generations The Legacy actress Thando Thabethe.
“God is God. Dreams come true everyday. So excited. So grateful. And congrats as well to my co-host @tumi_morake @thesamas let’s burn the floor,” he wrote.
Morake also shared her excitement on her Instagram page: “What an opportunity. What a wow. Grateful. Elated. God is good. And you know I’ll rock up in style.”
The annual two-day event celebrates the country’s finest music talent, as they battle for the South African industry’s highest honour – a Sama statuette.
The Recording Industry of South Africa’s Nhlanhla Sibisi said: “Our team is hard at work putting together a ceremony befitting the stature of the Samas. We believe that Somizi and Tumi will add extra zing to the proceedings and leave us entertained.”

The list of nominees is dominated by artists who released their debut or second projects in the past year.
In April, Sibisi toasted the nominees at an event at the Destiny Exclusive Hotel in Kempton Park. “This is the year that newcomers will take most of the limelight. It is truly encouraging to see so many young and new artists dominate the list. It can only bode well for the industry. The future is bright and we couldn’t be happier for them,” he said.
Rapper Nasty C leads the pack with an impressive six nominations. His Bad Hair Extensions album earned him nods for Best Newcomer of the Year, Best Male Artist of the Year, Best Album of the Year and Best Rap Album. To top it off, videos for his Don’t Do It and Good Girls singles are in the running for Best Music Video of the Year.
Hot on the heels of 20-year-old Nasty C is fellow rapper Kwesta, with five nods, while new singing sensation Amanda Black bagged four.
The Samas ceremony will be held at Sun City from 26-27 May and will be broadcast live on SABC1.
