This year, Mandela Day will not only mark a day for citizens across the world to donate their time to those who are less fortunate, but will also mark what would have been the international icon’s 100th birthday.
To commemorate this momentous occasion a special edition booklet of the 16th annual Nelson Mandela lecture has been published by Ndalo Media in association with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Old Mutual and the Motsepe Foundation.
Some of the exclusive content in the booklet includes an interview with Graça Machel where she shares memories of her late husband and their life together.
“One of the things I miss so much are his morning calls that he’d make before we were staying together. His was the first voice I would hear, calling to say, “good morning” and “how did you sleep?”
Former US President Barack Obama will deliver the lecture on 17 July 2018. He’s long been a staunch admirer of the late anti-apartheid activist.
“It’s tempting to remember Nelson Mandela as an icon, smiling and serene, detached from the tawdry affairs of lesser men, but Madiba himself strongly resisted such as lifeless portrait. Instead, Madiba insisted on sharing with us his doubts and his fears, his miscalculations along with his victories,” Obama said.
