Following the well-received three-part mini-series The New Edition Story created by the TV network two years ago, which told the story of the legendary group from which Brown and his fellow group members began their journey to stardom, The Bobby Brown Story will focus on the R&B star’s career and personal life.

Naturally, the biopic – which is based on his Every Little Step: My Story memoir from 2016 and stars actor Woody McClain as Brown (49) – reveals details of his love life, including his apparent relationship with Janet Jackson (51) in the 1980s.

In it, the two dated prior to his relationship with Whitney Houston, but soon fizzled out due to what Brown believes was Ms. Jackson’s family’s issue with his skin complexion, reports Essence.

Part one set Twitter ablaze following its screening in the USA on Tuesday night, as it portrays the two to have been in a relationship.

Reports have subsequently claimed that an eyebrow-raising scene in which Brown is seen losing his temper after an intimate night with the Got ’til It’s Gone hit-maker, then throwing her out of a hotel room – naked – was cut.

Jackson is yet to address the claims, and so, the jury remains out on whether the Girlfriend singer may have used some creative licence in telling his story.

The show debuts on DStv channel 129 on 15 September at 8pm.
