Online job aggregator Adzuna has shared its findings from a recent study that looked at the average salaries of 100 000 job listings on its platform in comparison to the cost of rent for employees across the country.

While Cape Town has dethroned Johannesburg as the country’s leading financial hub, according to a report in the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI 24) by Z/Yen Partners and the China Development Institute, Johannesburg, still offers the highest average salary for employees out of the 15 major cities considered. The City of Gold saw an average monthly salary of R33 261, followed by Sandton at R29 146 and Cape Town at R28 927.

The city with the lowest monthly salary is Vanderbijlpark, with an average salary R12 829 per month.

The study found that South Africa’s average disposable salary is R30 396. Look at the breakdown of the average salaries in the various cities across the country.
