While we live in the 21st century and it’s been decades since women’s liberation, it is still typically accepted that men do the marriage proposals.

Well, not anymore. New DStv show Marry Me Now gives 13 women the opportunity to propose to their boyfriends – while wearing their wedding dresses!

Vuyiswa Dlodlo, M-Net’s Publicity Coordinator, the prospective brides will have only three days to plan their perfect proposal and dream wedding.

“She is supplied with a wedding planner and a set wedding budget. She chooses her dream décor, cake, flower arrangement, food menu, her partner’s suit and wedding dress. Her family and friends, as well as her partner’s relatives, are all in on the scheme.”

At the end of the episode, one of two things happens. He says “no” and the show ends or he accepts the proposal and they get married on the spot. Yikes!

No word yet on how lobola negotiations are factored into this arrangement.

“Marry Me Now takes viewers on an exciting yet nerve-racking journey, as these women, who clearly know what they want, are given a platform to share their story and take their relationships to the next level. It’s about taking a serious step in a couple’s relationship, but not in a conventional way, so one can’t help but hold their breath in anticipation of the answer,”says Reneilwe Sema, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.

Definitely makes for interesting TV.

The show premieres on DStv channel 103 (1Magic) on 2 November at 7pm and will be hosted by actress Tabitha Ndima.
