Founded by Omoyemi Akerele – who took a leap from law into fashion – Heineken Lagos Fashion Week kicks off tomorrow, 24th October, for its eighth installment. Showcasing some of the continent’s finest designers, such as South Africa’s Jacques van der Watt of Black Coffee and Sandile Duke Mngadi of Clothe Your Soul, the four-day event, taking place in Oniru, will see the Pan African aesthetic take centre stage.
And, as Nigerian designers continue to make their mark in fashion within the continent and beyond, you may be looking to spruce up your wardrobe with a few of their pieces too.

With Nigerian designer, Sisiano Paolo, at the helm, Sisiano has been making big waves since its first Lagos Fashion and Design week showcase in 2013. A textile designer and dancer, Paolo’s richly-coloured women and men’s line encapsulates movement and playfulness.
Donned by the likes of Bonang Matheba, D N A is a brand that its creative director, Destiny Nwadiri, aptly describes as everything she believes fashion should be: “young fresh colourful and fun.” Think bold colours, playful shapes and fine detail.

In its own words, the label, founded by Rukky Ladoja, is “dedicated to providing style options for women who are looking to incorporate beautiful fragments of a cosmopolitan culture directly into their wardrobe.”
This menswear brand merges African inspired style with contemporary design, with pieces that are suited for both formal and casual occasions and spaces. Innovation is key when it comes to the label, founded by Joseph O. Ike and Ola Akindeinde, who aim to redefine the notions of rigid masculinity.
