Following a High Court ruling in Johannesburg on Friday that Lerato Sengadi is the customary wife to the late motswako icon, she attended the funeral. Sengadi had originally approached the court on an urgent basis asking to stop the scheduled burial date. This was after HHP’s father Robert Tsambo publicly denied that Sengadi was married to his son.
The tension between Sengadi and the Tsamabo family continued during the funeral, with Sengadi not offered a seat near the family. She was also not mentioned in the obituary.
HHP’s father, Robert Tsambo had argued that she was not “handed over” to the Tsambo family in any ceremony, but Judge Ratha Mokgoatleng dismissed his argument and ruled that Sengadi was the customary wife to the rap musician. The judge denied her interdiction to stop the funeral, saying she could attend the funeral in Mahikeng.
HPP is to be buried at “hero’s acre” at the Mmabatho cemetery in Mahikeng on Saturday. He has been afforded a civic funeral. North West premier Job Mokgoro said HHP loved his hometown Mahikeng and took it in his heart wherever he went in the world.
