Her face is recognisable to those who are keen followers of local soapies.
She’s been in Home Affairs, Hard Copy and both starred in and produced Izingane zoBaba, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s King Lear.
Her talents don’t only lie in acting – she writes too.
Gumede has been absent from TV screens while focusing on her production company Paw Paw Productions.
Currently she is the showrunner on Housekeepers, starring Thando Thabethe and Connie Chiume. A showrunner is someone who has creative authority and manages the production.
Not only is she passionate about TV production and acting, but she also stands against women abusers. She once tweeted: “As women TV producers we must call cut. I don’t care how big of a star they are, but if you abuse women then we shouldn’t hire your ass” in response to revelations about abuse in the TV industry.
And now, she’s adding another arrow to her quiver as the co-founder of the Black Twitter Awards. They took place yesterday, and by all accounts, were a huge success.
